Joy in the Morning

“Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.” Psalm 30:5

“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 5:10-11

“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” 1 John 3:2

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

“‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true. It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.'” Revelation 21:1-6

Joy in the morning,

how can it be?

When all of life’s sorrows

are weighing on me?

The weeping is deep

from inside the pain,

the void, and the hurt-

will I breathe again?

Who heals the wounds

when life’s torn asunder

when plans take sharp turns

and joy’s buried under

Unexpected events

and death’s biting sting,

time interrupted

by sad manner of things?

When night is endless

choked with thick dark,

and sadness carves

its indelible mark

On looking forward,

on future’s plight,

on how to proceed,

on seeing the light?

The Christ! It is He!

Word become flesh!

Enduring our sorrows,

bearing our death!

He bore the pain

He rules the day

He vanquished night

to make new life’s way

The promise stands fast

mine to take hold

God’s word against weakness

is mighty and bold

Resurrection hope,

light’s promised dawn,

Upward and forward

He gives strength to go on

Drink for the thirsty

rain for the drought

desire for despair

hope dispels doubt

Jesus the Victor

grants blessing in sorrow

sharing His suffering

revives will for tomorrow

He knows the future

He leads the way

with joy and good purpose

soul songs for day

That lasts forever

in eternity’s light,

no more sorrow,

no pain, tears, or night.

One day will bring joy

love’s grand reunion

when wonder and praise

abound in unison

Mourning swallowed in morning,

enemy death by life,

healing and peace

conquering suffering and strife

All saints who have borne

earth’s scars of sin

will sing heaven’s song

again and again

The Lord will awaken

the day when all’s well,

and turn time eternal

with Christ we will dwell

His face we’ll behold,

full redemption employ,

heaven our sure home,

hope’s unshakable joy (PEB)

“For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 100:5

Amen

I love God's word and the God of the word. Isaiah 55:10-11 describes my vision for the blog: as the Lord has displayed so beautifully in nature the work of His living word in man, I desire the words I write to show forth His glory in creation (my photographs and art of words) and His word so the truth of scripture takes deep root, grows, and bears much fruit- of spirit and praise to Him. To my Lord be all the glory for what He accomplishes through His word! ~P. Bunn
